This exhibit is an explosion of ideas and different applications from 33 artists from across North America.
The juried exhibition, on the first floor of the GoggleWorks Center for the Arts, Second and Washington streets in Reading, runs through April 18.
Historically, fiber work was considered a home craft and utilitarian.
The theme of this exhibition is a creative approach to material, reaching beyond historical definitions and adapting techniques familiar in contemporary art and their use of fiber media.
The exhibition winner will receive a solo show at the GoggleWorks in 2011.
The artists employ traditional fiber expressions such as quilting, felting and weaving.
However, these pieces represent reinterpretations and the fusion of other media into the artwork.
This exhibit was juried by acclaimed artist Warren Seelig, a distinguished visiting professor at the University of the Arts in Philadelphia.
The GoggleWorks is open Monday through Saturday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. Free parking is available.
