Reading Hospital makes interim top leaders permanent

New leaders at Reading Hospital

In March 2012:

Ellen Kellom became director of laboratory services.

Michele Pierry became therapy manager.

In February 2012:

Sharon Faust became director of payor relations.

Dr. Elaine Lewis became chairwoman of the radiology department.

In January, 2012:

Julie Latzger became director of legal services.

Mark Weinberg became director of compensation, benefits, and the human-resources information system.

Lillian Dixon became nurse manager for the Beginning Maternity Center's R1 East Patient Care Unit.

Clint Matthews became chief executive officer.

Therese Sucher became chief operating officer.

Richard W. Jones became chief financial officer.

In November 2011:

Karen Karpovich became director of risk management.

Alexandra Short became director of library services.

In October 2011:

Kathleen Wetzel became chief legal compliance officer.

Desha Dickson became director of volunteer services.

In September 2011:

Dionne Anderson became director of environmental services.

Joseph Lyons became director of public relations.

In July 2011:

Gregory Lutz became executive director of The Reading Hospital Medical Group.

Larry Patton became director of facilities management.

Robert Lahey became assistant director of facilities management.

In June 2011:

Christel Grazier became director of perioperative services.

Gregory Toot became vice president of rehabilitation services.

Mark Thomas became vice president of human resources.

In May 2011, Dr. Jorge J. Scheirer became vice president and chief medical information officer.

In March 2011, Dr. Kolin D. Good became chairwoman of the department of psychiatry.

In December 2010, Dr. M. Joseph Grennan Jr. became senior vice president and chief medical officer.

In October 2010, Dr. David L. George became vice president of academic affairs and chief academic officer.

In September 2010, Jones became interim senior vice president and chief financial officer.

In May 2010:

Matthews became interim president and chief executive officer.

James L. Rosenberg became interim executive vice president and chief operating officer. He has left.

The Reading Hospital's board of directors announced Thursday, Nov. 17, that it has appointed three interim executives to permanent positions.

  • Clint Matthews, chief executive officer
  • Therese Sucher, chief operating officer
  • Richard W. Jones, chief financial officer

 

The appointments are effective Jan. 1.

All three will relocate to Berks County and cease their employment with http://www.fticonsulting.com/index.aspx">FTI Consultants, Brentwood, Tenn., through which they have served the hospital in the same roles since June 2010.

"Clint, Therese, and Rick as a team bring a century of experience in professional healthcare administration and a commitment to the nation's best practices to our hospital," said C. Thomas Work, chairman of the hospital's board of directors.

"During the last 17 months, they have led highly successful efforts to institutionalize high quality care, implement leadership training and accountability, introduce a system of uniform electronic health records throughout the organization, encourage clinical integration, and catalyze a state-of-the-art surgical facility on the main campus that will greatly increase surgical capability and lure talented surgical graduates to Reading," Work said.

A Texas native, Clint Matthews received an undergraduate degree in nursing from the University of Texas and a master's degree in health care administration from Texas Woman's University.

He has occupied executive roles with Tenet Healthcare's Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center in Florida, Lourdes Hospital in Kentucky, Princeton Health System in West Virginia, Ornda Healthcorp South Park Hospital in Texas, Amarillo Hospital District Northwest Healthcare System in Texas, HCA Doctors Hospital in Arkansas, and Hospital Affiliates International, Inc., facilities in Texas and California. He has been employed by FTI Consultants in its healthcare practice since 2004.

Also a nurse by training, Therese Sucher graduated from Ursuline College of Cleveland and received a master's degree in organizational development from Case Western Reserve University. She began her career as clinical director of nursing at Fairview General Hospital in Ohio, and later served as a consultant in the healthcare business practice of Arthur Andersen, LLC, and as vice president of operations at Kaiser Permanente in Cleveland.

Richard W. Jones received his undergraduate degree and an MBA from the University of Miami and is a certified public accountant. He has served as chief financial officer, or in comparable roles, at Boca Raton Community Hospital in Florida, Brooklyn Queens Healthcare of New York, Methodist Hospitals in Indiana, Roseland Community Hospital in Chicago, Tenet's USC University Hospital in Los Angeles, Louis A. Weiss Memorial Hospital in Chicago, Catholic Healthcare West's San Gabriel Valley Medical Center in California, Tulane University Hospital in Louisiana, University Hospital of Arkansas, and Geisinger System Services in Danville. He began his career as a financial counselor at Baptist Hospital of Miami and as a staff accountant with Arthur Andersen & Co.
