Humane Veterinary Hospitals Reading Achieves National Accreditation

Feb 23, 2017 • by Humane Pennsylvania

Reading, PA—Humane Veterinary Hospitals (HVH) Reading has achieved the highest level of veterinary excellence following a thorough evaluation by the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA). HVH Reading earned AAHA accreditation after a rigorous review of the hospital’s practice protocols, medical equipment, facility and client service.

Accredited hospitals are the only hospitals that choose to be evaluated on approximately 900 quality standards that go above and beyond basic state regulations, ranging from patient care and pain management to staff training and advanced diagnostic services. AAHA-accredited hospitals are recognized among the finest in the industry and are continuously reviewed and updated to keep accredited practices on the cutting edge of veterinary excellence.

According to AAHA, out of 33,000 animal hospitals in the United States, only about 12 percent are AAHA-accredited. HVH Reading is only the 21st accredited non-profit in the entire U.S. and the 3rd in Pennsylvania to attain accreditation. The first accredited non-profit hospital in Pennsylvania was HVH Lancaster.

Humane Veterinary Hospitals is a division of Humane Pennsylvania. Formed to help ensure pet owners have ready access to high-quality veterinary care, HVH also provides over $700,000 in charitable veterinary care to sheltered animals and at-risk animals in the community each year.

“AAHA accreditation is proof we have achieved our goal to provide the very best veterinary practice for our community,” states Karel Minor, President/CEO of Humane Pennsylvania. “This national accreditation is a statement that our veterinary services are among the very best, not just in our region, but nationwide. All pets deserve the best care, and our veterinarians deliver it.”

To maintain accredited status, HVH Reading and Lancaster must continue to be evaluated regularly by AAHA. HVH Lancaster passed its re-accreditation only days after HVH Reading attained its accreditation.

“We have always known that we provide top notch service to our clients and the pets they entrust to us,” says Lisa Malkin, Director of Hospital Administration at HVH. “The AAHA accreditation for not just one – but two – Humane Veterinary Hospitals validates this, and I could not be more proud of our teams.”

HVH Reading and Lancaster are open to the general public and accepting new patients. Pet owners look for AAHA-accredited hospitals because they value their pet’s health and trust the consistent, expert care provided by the entire health care team. The hospitals have expanded their services and boasts state-of-the-art digital radiology, dental and surgical suites. In addition to serving the general public, HVH Reading and Lancaster also serve the shelter animals at the Humane Society of Berks County and the Humane League of Lancaster County, as well as adopters and pet owners in financial need.
