Children’s Book Author Teaches Children About Savings at Bank Event

WYOMISSING, PA – Financial expert and children’s book author Lisa Werley discussed her new book on money and savings and played interactive games with children at Tompkins VIST Bank’s Leesport office recently. The children also received a signed copy of the book, donated by the bank, and took part in a coloring contest.

The bank hosted the event highlight “Teach Children to Save Day,” an annual initiative founded by the American Bankers Association that is held every April.  In addition to providing the book, the bank also gave each child a $10 savings coupon. “When we learned about Lisa’s book, we thought hosting an event like this would be an ideal way to help children learn about money in a fun and interesting way,” said Ann Fioravanti, AVP of Marketing for the bank.

The book, titled “The Giving Jar,” is the creation of Werley, a financial counselor, author and parent, and illustrator Ronda Lee Seymour, who teaches art at Schuylkill Valley Middle School.  “I wanted to create a financial literacy tool that emphasizes positive and rewarding life strategies including money management, savings, sharing and giving.”  Werley said.  The book is the first in the Johnny & Jay Book series.
