Albright College Women’s Rugby to Compete in National Championship

The Albright College women’s rugby team will compete in the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) Women’s 7’s National Championship at Founders Field in Cheswick, Pa., on April 29 and 30.

Albright is one of 16 teams from across the country competing in the NSCRO championship. Teams qualified through conference championships and an at-large bid process. Albright received an at-large bid.

The Lions will play three matches in pool play on April 29, facing the Claremont Colleges (Calif.), Colorado College and University of Findlay (Ohio).

The 7’s style of rugby features seven players per team, a much faster game that is played during the spring, as compared to the 15’s style of rugby played in the fall.

Women’s rugby is a club sport at Albright. The Lions participate in the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union. This season, the team posted a 9-1 record and placed second at the EPRU Championships earlier this month.

Women’s rugby last competed in the 7’s national championship in 2015 after being ranked 8th nationally at the end of their 2014 fall season.
