Muhlenberg Community Library (MCL) will host its first Wellness Fair, offering attendees a chance to experience the dangers of driving intoxicated from the safety of the Pennsylvania DUI Association’s Safety Simulator.
The fair is a free event occurring on Saturday May 6th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM. The PA DUI Association, thanks in part to a generous donation from the Conrad Weiser Society, will be one of twenty-five participants with information booths. Twenty-six speakers will present in the library’s large community rooms through-out the day, also.
Families are encouraged to attend and learn about wellness together. Children will have the opportunity to do crafts, dance with Branches of Dance, meet Chip (a therapy dog), and enjoy other activities in the Children’s Area. Wellness is about more than just doctor visits and fitness regiments. The library’s Wellness Fair encompasses practitioners delivering information and presentations relevant to mind, body, spirit and environment. For example, participants can learn more about nutrition and environment from the Lancaster Chapter of GMO Free PA and Plantie owner Alicia Uhl.
A practice session in energetic psychology will be offered by Three Pure Rivers from Drums, PA. Fairview Counseling will demonstrate Play Therapy for children. Military families can discover veteran benefits through the Berks Department of Veterans Affairs and learn about the American Rescue League of Berks County’s Patriotic Paws Program, the Wounded Warrior Project and PACT for Animals. Seniors will have a chance to hear about fall prevention from Berks Encore and home health care from a registered nurse. Miller Keystone Blood Center will be on hand for appointments and walk-ins to donate blood.
The Wellness Fair will have something for everyone. A schedule of all the presenters and activities can be found on the library’s Facebook page and website.
Community libraries are about more than just books. As a community partner, social hub and service provider, libraries offer much more than just the best reads around. Health Literacy is one of the five PA Literacies emphasized by libraries in PA. MCL has connected with community organizations to address health literacy for adults and children at its first annual Wellness Fair and encourages the community to “Be well with MCL!”
About MCL–The mission of the Muhlenberg Community Library is to promote lifelong learning opportunities by offering free library services to all who seek to change, improve, enrich and enjoy their lives.
