Annville, Pa. (May 3, 2017) – Four Alvernia University players were named All-MAC Commonwealth for softball, announced Wednesday by the Middle Atlantic Office.
Senior Amanda Turner received the First Team nod, while senior Brianna DePriest was named Second Team. Sophomore Morgan Psiuk and freshman Sarah Bystrycki were selected Honorable Mention.
Turner, a catcher, is making her second appearance on the All-MAC team. Named First Team as the Designated Hitter as a freshman, Turner was a strong hitter for the Crusaders in her final campaign, hitting .357 with a .457 slugging percentage. Recording 125 career hits, Turner sits in the top-10 in the Alvernia record books in seven categories, including holding the program homerun record with 20 and ranking 7th in RBI with 92.
DePriest, a utlitiy player, is collecting her third All-MAC recognition. She was the 2015 MAC Commonwealth Player of the Year, and was a First Team nod in 2016. This season, DePriest led the Crusaders in batting average (.376), hits (38), RBI (20), doubles (9), triples (2), homeruns (4), slugging percentage (.624) and on base percentage (.445)… Appearing in 50% of conference games at 3rd and 50% at 2nd, DePriest collected a .961 fielding percentage with just 5 errors in 122 attempts. With 147 career hits, DePriest sits in the top-10 in the Alvernia record books in 12 offensive categories, ranking in the top-5 in slugging percentage, batting average, on base percentage, doubles and homeruns.
Psiuk, an outfielder, is receiving All-MAC Commonwealth Honorable Mention for the second consecutive year. Starting in all but one game this season, Psiuk hit .345 with 30 hits and 15 RBI. Fielding 1.000 in the outfield, she recorded 56 putouts with 7 assists. 5 of Psiuk’s 7 assists came in conference play, including a pair of double plays against Arcadia and throwing out the game tying run at home against Widener.
Bystrycki, an outfielder, hit .344 in her freshman campaign with 32 hits and 12 RBI. Slugging .409 on the year, Bystrycki ranks second on the team in conference batting average, hitting .354. She leads Alvernia in hits in conference matchups with 19, and swiped six bags across all games.
