Calvert Retail announced today plans to close the iconic Reading China & Glass at Vanity Fair Outlet Center in West Reading, PA. The store has been a local institution for thirty eight years.
Owner, Eric Brinsfield, said about the closing: “The redevelopment project has a lot of moving pieces. We understood that it would be a challenge to accommodate our large store in development plans. As difficult as it is, it seemed it was time for us to move on.”
Reading China & Glass was founded in 1979 by Bud and Aggie Jansen. Specializing in china and glass sourced from around the world, the store became a proud and lasting brand. The “Reading China” backstamp on dinnerware is still known nationally. Reading China & Glass is a fixture in the community and its closing will be the end of an era.
“We really want to thank the folks of Berks County and beyond for all of the great years that we had in West Reading,” says Brinsfield. “We will be offering some incredible values for folks as we wind down the store, beginning on May 5th.”
The Reading China & Glass store in Lancaster, PA, remains open.
