KU’s O’Neill and Gabriele Selected for All-Conference Squads

The Kutztown University women’s lacrosse team had two honorees selected to All-Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) teams on Thursday. Senior Courtney O’Neill earned All-PSAC First Team as a defender while junior Sarah Gabriele earned All-PSAC Second Team at attack.

This is the second consecutive year for the duo to be named to All-PSAC squads, with Gabriele improving from Third Team to Second Team.

O’Neill finished her senior campaign with plenty of records to boast. In this season alone, O’Neill became the program-leader in single-game caused turnovers, single-game groundballs and single-season groundballs.

She closes her career as a Golden Bear as the program’s all-time leader in groundballs and caused turnovers. She is also tied for third for games played in a career.

Gabriele finished with another stellar season on the offensive end, as she led the Golden Bears in goals (53) and points (67). She was also second on the team in assists with 14.

As a junior, Gabriele is already the program leader in points (172) and goals (135) with another season left to go. Notably, Gabriele is also fourth all-time with 37 assists.

Of the three individual conference awards, East Stroudsburg represented each of them. Emma Rufolo was named Athlete of the Year, Tatyana Petteway was named the Freshman of the Year and Xeni Barakos was named the Coach of the Year.

Kutztown finished its season with an overall record of 7-10 and a conference record of 3-9, the second consecutive year reaching the record.

The Golden Bears will now begin preparations for the 2018 season.
