Three Fightins Named to Eastern League All-Star Game

Three Reading Fightin Phils players have been selected to the Eastern League All-Star Game in Manchester, N.H on July 12, the Eastern League announced on June 28.

Outfielders Carlos Tocci, Jiandido Tromp and pitcher Drew Anderson will represent Baseballtown in the mid-summer classic for the Eastern Division squad.

Outfielder Carlos Tocci has been a consistent contributor for the Fightin Phils in his first season at the AA level. Tocci is hitting .300 through 68 games with nine doubles, seven triples (EL leader) and has 27 runs batted in. The 21 year old has 33 runs scored and an on-base percentage of .362. Tocci has been strong with runners in scoring position this season: he’s hitting .329 (25-for-76) with three doubles and 24 RBI. The outfielder has a .994 fielding percentage with three assists.

Joining Tocci in the outfield will be Jiandido Tromp. Tromp was just named Eastern League Player of the Week for his outstanding play at the plate. Tromp batted .455 (10-for-22) with two doubles, four home runs, seven RBIs, five runs scored and one walk in six games last week. Tromp had at least one hit in all six of the games he played had multiple hits in three of those games. The Aruba native had a stretch of hitting a home run in three straight games and four out of five. The outfielder is hitting .283 with nine homers, 28 RBIs, and 33 runs scored in 59 games with Reading this season. Tromp had a brief call-up to the triple-A level, as he went 2-for-9 with a double and two RBIs.

Drew Anderson will be the lone Fightin Phils pitcher joining the Eastern Division pitching staff. The lone 40-man roster selection by the Philadelphia Phillies has led the Fightin Phils pitching staff this season. He’s currently 5-3 with a 3.68 ERA in 15 starts. He has struck out 68 batters in 78 1/3 innings while issuing just 25 walks. Opponents are hitting just .223 against him this season (2nd in EL). He’s currently tied for second in the Eastern League in WHIP (1.15).
