Summer is a supernova of a season

Summer is a supernova of a season

I know there are some among us who love the four seasons, but I am not among them.

Summer is THE season for me.

Summer is all about the sun.

Rays of sunshine lay taut on the horizon like drawn bowstrings.

At the beach or lake, the sun’s dazzling reflections dance on the shimmering surface of the water.

Fluorescent suntans make people look better. There is a reason why bronze and beach both start with the letter b.

And I love the smell of Coppertone. It smells like fun.

Indeed, summer also is all about the fun.

Summer is a party animal.

Beach parties, pool parties, resort vacations, swimming, riding an awesome wave while body surfing, boating, volleyball, cruising with the top down, the boardwalk and whatever all unleash an aurora borealis of a smile.

Summer rocks because it’s devoted to leisure and good times.

We can sit around in the summer and not feel guilty about it.

Yep, there’s nothing wrong with sitting on your butt on the beach.

The leisure recharges our batteries for the fall.

Out of stillness comes swiftness.

Out of patience comes energy.

Summer is so much more laid back.

You can get away with stuff you just can’t during the colder months, like eating cheeseburgers for breakfast, ice cream for lunch, and steak for dinner each and every summer day.

Summer eating is the best. Corn on the cob until it comes out of your ears; watermelon until you choke on the seeds. And all food tastes better off the grill.

Drinking is more fun in the summer. After all, the heat makes us thirsty so there isn’t a time of day too early during the summer to start throwing them back.

Summer is about not dressing up. T-shirts, shorts, flip-flops and swimsuits are all you need most of the time. No cumbersome coats. No bulky sweaters.

Granted, summer is not perfect.

But after the Garden of Eden disappeared like the morning dew after Eve chomped down on the forbidden fruit, what on this earth is?

Sweat can run off you in small rivers.

Temps can sizzle, as though pieces of bacon were being seared in a skillet.

The air can be as sticky as pine tar.

Humidity can wrap around like a wet towel.

The heaving sea can smack you down into the trough.

So what?

All are easily overcome with a dip in the pool or chilling in the AC.

Summer.

So hot right now.
