The Berks County Board of Commissioners announces Smart911 service is available to residents and visitors

READING, PA – Smart911 is a service that allows residents to create a free safety profile for their household that includes information they desire 9-1-1 and first responders to have in the event of an emergency.  Then, when anyone in that household dials 9-1-1 (from a phone associated with their safety profile), this information is immediately displayed to the 9-1-1 call taker.

At a time when seconds count, Smart911 provides details that could impact the response as soon as an emergency call is placed.  This could be the difference between life and death. Berks County Department of Emergency Services is requesting that Berks County residents, workers and frequent visitors sign up at Smart911.com and create a safety profile for your household to give 9-1-1 valuable information about yourself, family members, your home, pets, and even vehicles.  It’s private and secure, and you control what information is in your profile.  Best of all, these details are available to ANY 9-1-1 center you call as long as that 9-1-1 center subscribes to the Smart911 service.  That means if you travel on vacation and use your cell phone to make a 9-1-1 call, the center that serves that jurisdiction will have access to the same information as your “home 9-1-1 center” can access.  These details will only be available to 9-1-1 centers, to be shared with emergency responders as needed, and could save seconds or even minutes during an emergency where you are unable to give the details verbally.

Persons can also register by going to http://www.berksdes.com and clicking on the icon on the right side of the page that is labeled Smart911.
