ANNVILLE, Pa. – A big win to open conference play for the Albright football team led to two MAC Player of the Week award wins for the Lions. Quarterback Alec Vignola earned Offensive Player of the Week honors, and kicker/punter Kevin Goetz was named Special Teams Player of the Week.
Vignola was nearly perfect in the air while leading the Lions to a 50-17 win over Misericordia in the conference opener on Sept. 9. Vignola completed 20-of-21 passes for a 95.2 completion percentage, a new school record. He held the old record of 90 percent, set last season with his 18-for-20 performance against Misericordia. The senior threw for 306 yards and three touchdowns. He did not throw an interception and was not sacked. Vignola also led the Lions in rushing with 54 yards on five attempts, nearly 11 yards per rush. His longest pass completion was for 45 yards, while his longest rush was 37 yards.
Goetz made all six of his point-after-touchdown (PATs) and averaged 44 yards on three punts in the conference opener. One of his punts landed inside the 20. Goetz also averaged 59 yards on eight kickoffs.
Albright returns to action on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Lycoming.
