Special Event Encourages Adults to Spend Meaningful Time with Kids,

Proving One Day Can Change a Child’s Future

READING, PA — Please join Olivet Boys & Girls Club as we celebrate our annual Day for Kids event to highlight the critical needs of kids and teens in our community. This year’s event will be held on September 23 at Gordon Hoodak Stadium (251 N. 2nd St. Reading, PA 19601) from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Today, too many youth are facing serious issues that can deprive them of a happy, healthy childhood and negatively impact their future. Day for Kids celebrates the life changing work taking place at Boys & Girls Clubs each day by encouraging adults to spend meaningful time with young people and engage in fun and active play. Olivet Boys & Girls Club’s Day for Kids is one of hundreds events planned nationwide. All events are open to the public.

This year’s event will include a yoga session, games, arts & crafts, face painting, prizes & giveaways, music entertainment, information about the Clubs and how to register, and more.

Abilities in Motion, Berks Community Health Center, BCAP, Girl Scouts, Kula Kamala Foundation, Million Youth Chess Club, Reading Royals, Service Access and Management Inc., and other community organizations will all be on site.

The first 500 children in attendance will receive a complimentary pair of shoes that they will be able to uniquely decorate and take home thanks to a partnership with Boscov’s, BOBS from SKECHERS, and Delivering Good, Inc.

Delivering Good, Inc. (formerly K.I.D.S./Fashion Delivers) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, and the charity of choice for new product donations made by hundreds of companies in the fashion, home and children’s industries. Donating new merchandise provides these companies with a simple and effective way to help millions of kids, adults and families facing poverty and disaster. Since 1985, over $1.6 billion of donated product has been distributed through their network of community partners.

“Through our national non-profit partner Delivering Good, BOBS from SKECHERS helps children affected by poverty, homelessness, and disasters. The movement has donated new shoes to more than 14 million kids in the United States and more than 30 countries worldwide through the Head Start programs, education foundations, homeless shelters, disaster relief, and 501 (c)(3) organizations,” said Lara Diab, representative from SKECHERS. “In addition, the BOBS from SKECHERS program donates millions to Best Friends Animal Society®, a no-kill organization dedicated to saving the lives of dogs and cats in America’s shelters.”

The celebration will continue September 30. The Olivet Boys & Girls Club Ricketts Center location (640 Beech St.) will host another Day for Kids for the Pottstown community. The event will be from 11am to 3pm and will include food, games, arts & crafts, prizes & giveaways, music by DJ Souless Entertainment, and performances by Simply Phenomenal Dance Company and David Charles. Information about the Club and registration will also be available.
