Alvernia Releases Inaugural Football Schedule

Reading, Pa. – Alvernia University released its 2018 football schedule on Sept. 29.  It is the first football schedule in school history.

The Golden Wolves will open up hosting Gallaudet University for a non-conference game on Saturday, September 1, 2018.

Alvernia will have a bye in week two of the season and begin the MAC schedule in week three.

When Alvernia announced it would join the MAC as the 11th football school, league officials decided that instead of filling the entire schedule with 10 conference games, the teams would play eight of the other 10 schools allowing for two non-conference games.  The schedule is built in 2-year, home and away rotation.  It was decided that the top team in the league would not play the 10th and 11th place teams, #2 would not play nine and 11, and so forth.

That means that for the first two years of Alvernia Football the Golden Wolves will not face 2016 league champion Stevenson and #2 Albright.  The earliest season that the Alvernia-Albright rivalry could hit the gridiron would be the fall of 2020.

Alvernia’s first MAC opponent will be FDU-Florham at home on Saturday, Sept. 15.

After two home games to start the year, Alvernia hits the road for the first time on September 22, with a trip to Doylestown to face perennial MAC power Delaware Valley.  Alvernia is back at home in week four for a run of three straight NEPA Valley opponents.

Wilkes University comes to town on September 29 then a trip to Misericordia University on October 6.  King’s College travels to Reading on October 13, for the first Football Homecoming at Alvernia.

The Golden Wolves are on the road the next two weeks with games at Lycoming and Widener before the final MAC game of the year on November 3, at home against Lebanon Valley.

Alvernia will finish its first regular season with a non-conference game on the road against the University of New England.
