Donation of House to Disabled Veteran by Local Nonprofit

St. Clair, PA and Wernersville, PA – We Agape You, Inc. announces the recipient of their veteran donation house at 11 N. 2nd St. St. Clair, PA. Retired United States Army Airborne Infantryman, Sergeant Vercio Wiley, has been awarded the home due to his extenuating circumstances. Sgt. Wiley is a disabled veteran and single father of 5 children who are all under 7 years old. He was traumatically injured while completing Combat Infantry duties in Northern Iraq from 2007 to 2009.

During his tour in Iraq, Sgt. Wiley’s vehicle convoy was hit with an Improvised Explosive Device (I.E.D.) which knocked him unconscious. The injury left him with severe headaches, agonizing body pains, and unbearable nightmares. He has been diagnosed with PTSD, Traumatic Brain Injury, and hearing loss, in addition to other medical diagnosis. This led to his medical retirement.

Upon release from a Warriors Transition Unit in Virginia, Mr. Wiley moved himself and his 5 children to Puerto Rico in an attempt to live a quieter and simpler life in order to heal. Disaster again struck the family as they suffered through Hurricanes Irma and Maria. The family lost everything after Hurricane Maria and were living in deplorable conditions. After waiting days in the airport, they finally arrived in South Carolina and hitchhiked back to his hometown of Reading, PA. The family had only the clothes on their backs and have been unable to secure permanent housing.

According to the US Department of Veterans Affairs, a veteran commits suicide every 65 seconds. One of the major epidemics facing veterans is chronic homelessness and unemployment. We Agape You, Inc. aims to eliminate these hardships through training, employment opportunities, and housing rehabilitation for veterans. The donation of this 7 bedroom home is part of their mission. We Agape You, Inc. has committed to donating a house annually to a veteran family in need.

Sgt. Wiley would like to share his story, and we also wish to make the public aware of the Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for the house donation, which will take place at the property on November 1st, 2017 from 11:00am to 1:00pm. Wells Fargo Bank corporate office will also be doing a live feed of the ceremony, as they donated the property to us for rehabilitation and we are now donating it to a veteran family.
