READING, PA – In a sequel to the 2014 report on the community’s vital signs, Berks County Community Foundation and Alvernia University today unveiled a new website that will be periodically updated to track key indicators about Berks County.

Maps, charts, reports, and data stories are available at www.berksvitalsigns.org.

“The Berks Vital Signs Project provides information about our community that can be used to improve the local quality of life and to better understand how the community is faring,” said Heidi Williamson, vice president for programs and initiatives at the Community Foundation. “We invite you to explore the data sets, which include a variety of ways to compare areas within the county, with surrounding counties, and with the state and nation.”

The website also serves as a repository for community research, making important reports and documents available in one location, said David Myers, director of the O’Pake Institute for Ethics, Leadership and Public Service at Alvernia.

The previous 2014 report used publicly available data to provide a snapshot of the community’s vitality in areas such as education, healthcare, crime, and the environment.

The new website will track progress over time. Erika Rosenberg, a principal at CGR, a nonprofit research and consulting organization based in Rochester, N.Y., that produces community indicators reports, oversaw the project.
