Alvernia Teams up with COR Tennis

(Nov. 2, 2017) – While the Alvernia men’s tennis team was busy working on the court this fall season, they were also busy off the court making a difference in the Reading community.

Over four Saturday’s the last month, members of the men’s tennis team, as well as a couple members of the women’s team, worked with children as part of the City of Reading (COR) Tennis Program. COR Tennis is a junior tennis program whose mission is to make available the game of tennis, emphasize fun, and increase wellness and self-esteem while teaching life skills that participants can carry over to their everyday lives.

During the time that the team worked with COR-Tennis, the athletes played tennis with rising elementary and middle school players, and helped the students develop some of their skills. The team also shared their experiences about why they decided to go to college, what their future goals were, and answered any questions the kids had about college in general.

The team will cap off their time with COR-Tennis by having the group come and spend some time doing various activities on Alvernia’s campus later this winter.
