READING, PA – The Reading Public Museum is pleased to host a donation drive for the families of Berks County this winter season. All donations will go to the Berks Community Action Program (BCAP) located in Reading. Donation items will be collected at The Museum beginning Sunday, November 26 at The Museum’s Gift Shop Open House event and will conclude Sunday, December 10 at The Museum’s Pictures with Santa event during regular museum hours, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. Museum event hours may vary.
Items in need include: gloves, hats, scarves (often children get coats through the school or another program but still need winter accessories), chapstick, tissues, hand sanitizers and other toiletries, socks and thermal underwear, towels and blankets, and umbrellas.
Jodi Readinger, BCAP’s Community Relations Coordinator states, “The Berks Community Action Program serves over 1,000 families each year in its various programs. Each family comes to BCAP for a different reason but many of them need help with basic necessities that many people take for granted. It’s hard to walk to work in a snowstorm without an umbrella, it’s heartbreaking to tell your child to keep his hands in his coat pockets because he has no gloves, it hurts the whole family when everyone gets sick because there’s no hand sanitizer to prevent the spread of germs. The generosity of Museum Patrons this holiday season can help warm a family this winter.”
“This year we wanted to do something for the families in need and we thought this was a great way to give back,” said Lindsay Crist, Director of Community Development at the Reading Public Museum.
