It’s the most wonderful time of the year, for giving that is! While in the craziness of holiday shopping and getting ready for all the chaos to come, be sure to take some time to give.A great way to give is through the U.S. Marine Corps’ Toys for Tots! Toys For Tots is a nonprofit organization that aims to help economically disadvantaged children through the holidays. The Marine Corps has supported Toys for Tots since 1991 and is something people enjoy doing with their families every year. “My family and I participate in Toys for Tots as often as we can. If we see that a store is involved in Toys For Tots, then we are donating. It’s my favorite part of the holidays!” said Samantha Conte, an Alvernia University student.Toys For Tots is a great way to get the entire community whether it’s adults or children involved in the act of giving throughout the holiday season. This organization is extremely successful and has received over hundreds of millions of dollars which is going to the less fortunate families on the holidays. Although donating a new toy can be exciting for a kid to do, or even an adult, the Marines that are involved also love the work that they get to do every year.“The best thing about working Toys For Tots is knowing I’m helping a family that is less privileged and giving back to those kids,” said Kevin Bodnar, Petroleum Supply Specialist of the U.S. Army. Toys For Tots is a crazy time where many donations are being received, which is why they ask that all toy donations are in before December 11th, that way there is enough time for all the toys to be dropped off at the families just in time for the holidays! Toys For Tots is a simple, joyous act of giving a child a toy at Christmas which shows how valuable the act of giving is.Throughout the holiday season, we are reminded of the love and joy we have around us, with our family and friends, and we are thankful for what life has to offer us. While we take time to reflect on what we have and are grateful for, it is also important to think about the less-fortunate and take time to think about what we can do to help these families out.“One of my favorite memories of the holiday season was dressing up as an elf one year and delivering the toys to the children. The smiles on their faces is something I will never forget and seeing how happy it made them get a toy I delivered was one of the greatest feelings I have ever experienced,” said Kayla McNamee, an Alvernia University student, an active participant in the Toys For Tots organization. As everyone is beginning to get into the holiday spirit, make sure to keep your eyes and heart open to giving. Be sure to get all toy donations in before December 11th!
