Pottstown Mural Celebrating Latino Culture To Be Unveiled As Part of Hometown for the Holidays

Pottstown, PA—On Saturday,  December 9,  at 10 a.m. the first Pottstown Mural in celebration of  Latino Culture  will be unveiled at 685 Beech St. (corner of Beech and Grant), according to Pottstown Borough Councilwoman Rita Paez who serves as director of the Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos (CCLU).  As part of  Pottstown’s Hometown For The Holidays, the family oriented program features children playing Christmas carols on recorders.  Free hot cider and cocoa will be served.

“We are thrilled to be able to offer this wonderful tribute to the Latino community of Pottstown and to improve the cityscape as a Christmas gift to the Borough,” stated Councilwoman Paez. “We have received tremendous support from the Borough of Pottstown, Christ Episcopal Church, local businesses, educational institutions, non-profit organizations, and the Latino community in the greater Pottstown area.”  Located within the Hobart’s Run district, the mural will remain the property of CCLU and has been designed to be able to be moved if necessary to another location.

The 10ft x 40ft mural was conceived and executed by Carrie Kingsbury of Promiseland Murals. Kingsbury has been a full time mural painter since 1999, when she started Promiseland Murals. She has many large commercial and residential projects in her portfolio such as St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children in North Philadelphia, Children’s Home of Reading Day School, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia at King of Prussia and at Philadelphia, Julius Silvert corporate headquarters in North Philadelphia, Victorio’s Restaurant in North Coventry (PA), Malvern Pizza historical mural about the town of Malvern and the Malvern train bridge exterior murals, and many fine homes on the east coast.

Centro Cultural Latinos Unidos. Inc. (CCLU) is a non-profit, bilingual, bridge building organization, committed to enriching the lives of Latinos and others by embracing diversity through cultural, educational and recreational programs in the Greater Pottstown Area.   Donations for the upkeep of the mural may be made to CCLU, First Baptist Church,  301 King Street, Pottstown, PA 19464 or through visiting the CCLU web site: http://www.cclu-pottst.org/
