Wilson West To Donate Holiday Baskets For Reading Hospital Cancer Patients

On Friday, December 22, students from Wilson West Middle School will visit Reading Hospital’s McGlinn Cancer Institute to donate holiday baskets that the school’s students, teachers and staff have put together for McGlinn cancer patients and their families in need. The students will deliver the baskets on Friday at 9 a.m.

This is the eighth year the school has donated holiday baskets, and it is truly a school-wide effort. The students hold special events to raise money for items for the baskets, as do the faculty and staff. The school’s PTO contributes as well.

The baskets include items for a holiday meal, breakfast foods, diet-friendly items for the patients (such as ginger ale, saltines and applesauce), gift cards, Christmas CDs/DVDs, candles, candies, games, tablecloths and paper goods. The list of items expands each year.

The donation started as a collection among faculty and staff, and it has grown to include the students.

Reading Hospital extends a big thank you to Wilson West students, faculty and staff for supporting its patients, and it offers special kudos to the students for exhibiting compassion and generosity at such a young age.
