Reading, PA – Opportunity House is proud to host the 16th Annual Souper Bowl Event Monday, January 29, 2018 from 5:30-7:30 p.m. at The Crowne Plaza, Wyomissing.

After making their bowl selection, the more than 500 people in attendance will enjoy soups created by 28 local restaurants all hoping to be voted “best soup” by the attendees. There are also four non-competing vendors offering their delectables: Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, The Restaurant Store, Sweet Ride Ice Cream, and last year’s “Best Soup” winner, Chef Tim Twiford, Prime Restaurant Crowne Plaza.

In addition to the enjoyable edibles, attendees will also enjoy artist, Nathan Hirschbock, creating pottery on his wheel, a silent auction including professional pottery pieces by some of the best potters in Berks County and door prizes awarded to those attendees donning their favorite sports jersey or tee.

An integral part of the Souper Bowl is the more than 600 bowls themselves which are on display at the beginning of the event. To make this event come to fruition, sixteen local middle schools, high schools and a university, along with two churches and three local art and ceramic studios make bowls for the crowd to select from and take home.

Also, new for 2018 is the addition of another prestigious award: The Chef’s Choice award. Last year’s winner, Chef Twiford, will sample all competing soups and bestow The Chef’s Choice award upon the chef and restaurant he believes made the best soup! The Chef’s Choice award is a traveling award, much like the actual beloved Super Bowl trophy. The award will be returned and given to the winner each year.

A Souper Bowl Preview Party will also be held on the 29th at The Crowne Plaza from 4:30-5:30 p.m. Preview Party attendees will enjoy a delicious spread by The Hitching Post Restaurant & Pub, wine and beer. Plus, Preview Party attendees receive first pick of bowl and soup tastings. Tim Gross and Carl Zeplin will also entertain the group with the sound of Jazz.

Proceeds from the event are expected to be $50,000 and benefit the programs at Opportunity House. Souper Bowl tickets are $30 and Preview Party tickets are $80 in advance and are available on-line at

https://opphouse.org/events/16th-annual-souper-bowl-14  until midnight on Sunday, January 28th. Tickets purchased at the door the day of the event are $35 and $85.

The Souper Bowl is supported by 30 local companies with Supreme Ceilings, Inc. as the presenting sponsor and the 2018 Souper Bowl Committee: Nancy Brandi, Sue Haggerty, Nancy List, Carol Miller, Blythe Ratcliffe, Christopher Reyes, Tara Rupert, Debra Soule, and Cheryl Tobias.
