Reading, Pa. – Albright College will host the 6th annual Albright Improv Festival on Saturday, Feb. 3, at 7 p.m., in Roop Hall, in the College’s Center for the Arts. Tickets are $5 and can be purchased at the door the evening of the show or at www.albright.edu/CenterfortheArts.

Launched in 2013, the Albright Improv Festival aims to bring regional high school, college and professional improvisational groups to Reading for a day of workshops, performances and fun.

The festival will be headlined by Matt Holmes who has performed and taught improv since 1998. Holmes ran a weekly short-form improv show in college, co-founded the seminal Philadelphia longform group Rare Bird Show in 2003, and performs improv with a complete stranger from the audience in Matt&, called a “must-see” by Philadelphia Weekly and “playful and winning” by Time Out magazine. He has taught improv across the country to 7-year-olds, 70-year-olds, and others in between.

The festival will include performances by local and regional college and private improv troupes and also feature Albright’s improv groups, Less Than or Equal To and Soviet Purgatory.

Improv workshops will be led by Holmes and Matt Fotis, chair of the Albright theatre department and author of Long Long Form Improvisation & American Comedy – The Harold, and co-author of The Comedy Improv Handbook, from noon to 3:30 p.m., in Roop Hall. A comedy roundtable, “Serious Comedy,” will discuss the role of comedy in confronting the issues of the day from 4 to 5:30 p.m., in Roop Hall.

The Center for the Arts is located on the Albright College campus at 13th and Bern streets, Reading, Pa. For more information, call the Box Office at 610-921-7547 or visit www.albright.edu/centerforthearts or http://www.albrightimprov.com/albright-improv-festival.html
