In recognition of Sexual Assault Awareness Month, the Wyomissing Public Library will offer two interactive programs, one for adults and one for teens. Both programs will be presented by Safe Berks, and are free and open to the public. On Tuesday, April 10th at 6 PM, Safe Berks will present In Their Shoes, a scenario-based program for adults. In Their Shoes is designed to help parents, guardians and other adults understand what dating is like for adolescents. In the first part of the program participants will become teen characters, make choices about their relationships, and then see the effects of their decisions. Afterwards, there will be a discussion about what unhealthy and abusive relationships look like and what opportunities exist to support those experiencing them.On Tuesday,April 17th at 6 PM, Safe Berks will present Healthy Relationships, a program for teens. The Healthy Relationships program reviews how teens are involved in many different types of relationships with their families, friends, classmates and adults. Through interactive activities and group discussion, teens will identify qualities they want and deserve in a healthy relationship, what red flags may foretell a dangerous or abusive relationship, and other issues that may arise in dating.Registration for each of these programs is requested, and may be done at www.wyopublib.org, or by calling the library at 610-374-2385.
