The Eastern League has announced that Reading Fightin Phils infielder Zach Green and pitcher Ranger Suarez have been named Eastern League Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period of June 18th through June 24th.

Green is receiving the award for the first time.  Suarez was previously named Eastern League Pitcher of the Week for the period of April 16th through April 22nd.

Green hit .417 (10-for-24) with three doubles, one triple, five home runs, 13 runs batted in, eight runs scored, four walks in seven games this past week.  He had at least one hit in all seven games he played in last week and had multiple hits in three games.  He ended the week by hitting a home run in four straight games and is now tied for the league lead with 15 home runs on the season.  The last Fightins player to hit a home run in four straight games was Zach Collier from August 2nd through August 5th, 2014 against New Hampshire and Harrisburg.

The Fightins infielder led all Eastern League hitters in extra base hits (9), total bases (30), home runs (5), slugging percentage (1.250) and OPS (1.767) this past week.  He’s currently hitting .279 with 18 doubles, 15 home runs and 46 runs batted in 64 games this season.

Suarez started two games this past week for the Fightin Phils and had a record of 2-0 with seven strikeouts and a 0.64 ERA.  He pitched a complete game on Tuesday at Portland in Reading’s 7-1 victory in the opener of a double-header.  He gave up one run on five hits while striking out five batters and walking two over seven innings of work.

The left-hander made his second appearance of the week on Sunday afternoon at New Hampshire.  He pitched seven shutout innings in Reading’s 8-1 win.  He gave up just five hits while recording two strikeouts and issuing one walk.  The 22-year old led all Eastern League pitchers in innings pitched (14.0) and tied for the league lead in wins (2) and complete games (1) last week.
