Corrigan Named Women’s Lacrosse Head Coach at Alvernia

Alvernia University Director of Athletics Bill Stiles announced on July 6 the hiring of Megan Corrigan as the fifth head coach of the women’s lacrosse program.

Corrigan takes on the head coaching role after a year working under Kelly McCloskey, who led Alvernia to three MAC Commonwealth tournaments, four ECAC tournaments, and one ECAC title over 13 seasons.

“We are delighted to announce Megan Corrigan as the next Head Coach of Women’s Lacrosse at Alvernia,” said Stiles. “Megan started her collegiate career as an All-Conference player here at Alvernia, and we could not be happier to have her begin her head coaching career here as well. She has proven success at the assistant level and we are excited to see her take the program to the next level.”

Prior to Alvernia, Corrigan was the assistant coach at Susquehanna University for three seasons, where she coached three First Team Landmark All-Conference players, and three all-region players. Corrigan also helped lead the team to the 2015 Landmark Conference championship game. Corrigan also completed a women’s lacrosse graduate assistant coaching position at Misericordia University for two seasons while earning a Master’s in Organizational Management.

Corrigan is a 2012 graduate of Alvernia University, where see earned a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training. She was a four year member of the women’s lacrosse team, and a two-time MAC Commonwealth Second Team All-Conference honoree. Corrigan is third all-time in program history with 92 career caused turnovers, and sits in the top ten all-time in career assists (42), and is top twenty in career goals (51) and career points (93). She was also the senior captain on the 2012 ECAC Championship team.

“I am extremely honored and excited to have this opportunity to take over as the head coach at Alvernia, where my college lacrosse career began. Alvernia has all the right resources and opportunities to recruit quality student-athletes and I can’t wait to get started,” said Corrigan. “I would like to thank Bill Stiles for this opportunity, and Kelly McCloskey for being a great mentor and laying a strong foundation for this program.”

Corrigan will begin work immediately. Women’s Lacrosse will tentatively kick off its 2019 season on the road against Penn State Abington on March 2nd.
