Penn State Berks will host Bárbara Mujica, award-winning author, scholar and past-president of the Association of Hispanic Classical Theater, as part of Hispanic Heritage month. Mujica will discuss her success and experiences in sharing stories of Hispanic culture on Thursday, September 27, at 5 p.m. in room 244 of the Gaige Technology and Business Innovation Building. This presentation is free and open to the public.
Mujica’s novels include Frida, an international bestseller published in eighteen languages, and I Am Venus, winner of the Maryland Writers Association International Fiction Competition. Her novel Sister Teresa, based on the life of Saint Teresa de Avila, was adapted into a play by the Actor’s Studio in Hollywood and published in Spanish.
In addition to her career as an award-winning author, Mujica is also a Spanish professor at Georgetown University, where she is director of El Retablo, the Spanish-language theatre group. She serves as the editor-in-chief of Comedia Performance, a journal devoted to early modern Spanish theatre. In 2014, she published A New Anthology of Early Modern Spanish Theater: Play and Playtext through Yale University Press.
