Women’s Tennis senior Amanda Phillips and Football freshman Malcolm Carey were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performance during the week of September 30 – October 7.
Phillips went 2-0 at No. 1 singles and 2-0 at No. 1 doubles to go 4-0 on the week. The senior dropped just two games all week to help lead Alvernia to a 2-0 week and 3-0 start to the 2018-19 season. The Golden Wolves earned 9-0 wins over Penn State Berks and Cabrini University during the week.
Carey accounted for all five of Alvernia’s touchdowns in a 45-33 loss on Saturday to Misericordia. Four of Carey’s touchdowns came on runs of ten yards or less, but the freshman had one big touchdown on a 63 yard breakaway run in the first play from scrimmage in the second half. Carey finished the day with 230 rushing yards.
