Cups of Compassion Seeks Volunteers for Day of Service to Reading Area Homeless

The 8th Annual Cups of Compassion will take place on Thursday, December 20, 2018

Join us as we plan this year’s event!

Cups of Compassion would not happen without its dedicated team of volunteers.  Opportunities to lead special projects or to be a part of a planning committee for the 2018 event are available

Now in its 8th year, this event is a day to serve the homeless in our community by offering food, clothing, and various services.  Plan to join us and learn how you can help make a difference in our community:

Donate:  Items collected for the event include clothing, food and drinks, toiletries, and pet food.  Donations can be picked up prior to event or distributed by your volunteers during the event.  See a list below of items that are in most need this year.Provide Services:  Health screens, hair cuts, and other types of services are welcome on the event day.Volunteer:  Volunteers are needed for set up and tear down of the event, as well as throughout the event.  Volunteers are also welcome to serve on the various committees that make this event possible.Share:  We welcome everyone at this event.  Please share this event with anyone who may have a need.Perform:  To add to the holiday spirit of the event, we welcome school groups, choirs, etc. to perform in half hour slots during the event.There are opportunities to lead a committee, or to get involved in the important planning stages to make this event a success!   Positions are available for the following  committees.  Do you have a skill that you can offer? If you’re willing to lend a hand, we invite you to join us and learn how you can help us make a difference!

Finance:  manage bank account, budgets, and financial statements Volunteers:  coordinate volunteers and assignmentsMarketing/PR:  create emails, manage social media sites, create promotional materials Vendors & Donations:  coordinate vendors and donations, make contact with businesses and past participants Logistics:  submit permit applications, coordinate parking, create map of vendors, manage set up and tear downMusic & Entertainment: secure musical groups to perform, contact DJ Victor and Santa Claus, set up Santa tent

Outreach:  contact area organizations who work with those in need in the community to help share the word about the event

Donations Needed:

Socks Did you know that socks are one of the most commonly needed item, but are rarely donated?  Consider having a sock drive at your business or organization. 

Clothing Warm winter clothing including new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, and scarves will be accepted until the event.  We will also accept new and gently used clothing of any kind.

Candy We will be accepting candy that will be used to distribute during the Downtown Reading Holiday Parade.  We will also accept candy canes that will be used to hand out during the Cups of Compassion event in December.Bags:  Bags of any kind (canvas, grocery, kitchen bags) will be given out to attendees of the event to keep items they receive during the day.Hygiene products:  Common items needed are shampoo, soap, shaving cream, toothbrushes and toothpaste, deodorant, and feminine hygiene products.
