Robeson Elementary Center offers 23rd Annual Veterans Day Program

Nov 02, 2018
American Veterans

The students and staff of Robeson Elementary Center would like to extend our many thanks to the men and women who have given of their lives to protect and defend our country. Again this year, Robeson Elementary students will participate in a program to honor our Veterans. This program started 25 years ago at the Honey Brook Elementary Center with Mrs. Dieffenbach teaching the students to sing the Armed Forces Songs. Since then, Mrs. Dieffenbach brought the idea to Robeson and it has grown over the years as well as our passion to teach children the importance of honoring our Veterans. This year’s theme is “Respect is Our Choice”. Our program is dedicated to all our Veterans. With great respect, honor and gratitude we salute them for giving the ultimate sacrifice to protect our freedom.

On November 9, 2018, Veterans will be served breakfast at 9:00 AM followed by a program in recognition of their service to our country. After the program Veterans are invited to visit our classrooms and share memories of their time in the military. Our students love this interaction. Their thought provoking questions and comments help form a great bond between the Veterans and the students.

All Robeson students will take part in preparing for this much anticipated assembly. Kindergarten will make a banner. First grade will make cards and second grade students will decorate invitations. Third and fourth grades will present a musical program as well as poems and essays to commemorate the untold sacrifices made by our Veterans.

The Veterans Day tribute starts with the Birdsboro VFW Color Guard procession. Also included in the program is a candle lighting ceremony in remembrance of our fallen Veterans, the playing of “Taps”, memorial reenactments, and musical performances by all our students. The opening song will be sung by the Third Grade, “Because of You”. Fourth grade will sing “In Service of Our Country”.

State Representative Gillen will be speaking at the program and one of the attending Veterans, David Rissell, will be bringing an authentic WWII military vehicle to the celebration.

Any Veterans interested in attending the program please RSVP at 610-582-9580.
