After winning the Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union College Championship on Nov. 3, the Albright College women’s rugby team is headed to the National Small College Rugby Organization (NSCRO) regionals this weekend, Nov. 10-11, in York, Pa.

Albright is currently ranked as one of the top 16 small college rugby teams in the country and expects to make a third national tournament appearance in five years.

Founded in 1995, Albright College women’s rugby club competes in the Small College-Division III League as well as a number of off-season tournaments. Last weekend’s 22-17 championship win over Widener University gives the team an undefeated league record for the 2018 season. The Lions will face Lee University for the Mid-Atlantic Region title at York College this weekend, and the winner will advance to the 2018 NSCRO Women’s 15s National Championships, December 1-2, at Life University in Marietta, Ga.

The team is led by Captain Mia Felix, a senior biology major from Middletown, N.Y., and head coach Kaitlyn Andrews. A four-year starter, Felix attributes the team’s success to hard work on and off of the field.

“This weekend, we are ready to make a name for Albright women’s rugby — and win — so we can take our talent to Georgia for NSCRO nationals,” says Felix. “Our team is focused, driven and passionate, and that will all show when we compete this weekend.”
