Reading, PA – Reading Public Library has named local industrialist and philanthropist, David Thun, as the Campaign Chair of the institution’s 2018 Annual Appeal.  According to Nancy Campbell, President of the library’s Board of Trustees, “The naming of a community member as respected as Mr.Thun to serve as our inaugural Annual Appeal Chair is an important step in moving this campaign to the forefront of our annual giving program. Libraries urgently need private donations to supplement public funding and a successful annual appeal can be an institution’s primary source of unrestricted, sustainable income.”

The goal for the 2018 campaign is $32,000, a 60% increase over 2017appeal, Among other things, income from the library’s Annual Appeal will support salaries for library staff who bring books and movies to twelve senior centers throughout Reading, offer children’s programming to seventeen city Head Start program four times a year, and circulate over 50,000 items a year through an interlibrary loan system that travels throughout our county, state and far beyond.

Campaign Chair, David Thun stated the following as one his reasons for accepting this leadership role. “Reading Public Library is playing an indispensable role in our city’s renewal by both reducing the divides that create inequality and social exclusion and by preparing residents for a promising future.”
