The Reading Fightin Phils have announced the hiring of Roberto Sanchez as Diversity Outreach Coordinator.  Sanchez was a former R-Phils ticket sales intern in 2002 and will be entering his second season with the R-Phils.

“Roberto Sanchez brings passion, personality and outstanding communication skills to the R-Phils Front Office Family”, said Fightins General Manager Scott Hunsicker.  “The key to the R-Phils sustained success is our outstanding Front Office Staff.  When you have the opportunity to add another highly talented individual to that Front Office Team, you have to take advantage of it.  Roberto has remained a part of our R-Phils family since his days as an intern here.  Through the years, he has grown in stature through his many business and community outreach activities.  We are so very excited to have Roberto back with the R-Phils, and with Baseballtown Charities.”

Sanchez will be responsible for creating and implementing R-Phils programs and mechanisms that drive diversity and diverse promotions.  He will serve as the “go-to” expert for Hispanic communications and relationships.

Roberto will also serve a key role with Baseballtown Charities, where he will implement the new “Rip It for Life” Initiative.  There are many children in our community that have the talent to excel in their area of academic and/or athletic interests, but do not have the resources to apply that passion to catapult them to the next level. “Rip It for Life” was created for this specific purpose with the focus on boys and girls that have the passion for the sport of baseball and softball. The mission of the “Rip It for Life” program is to provide elite baseball and softball training, and to provide support that will nurture leadership and personal growth for those that may not have the resources to do so on their own.

In addition to those responsibilities, Roberto also currently sits on the Berks Community Action Program Board, and is a tutor for the Ready.Set.Reading program at Riverside Elementary School.  He also serves as the General Manager of Rip It Batting Cages and Baseball/Softball Skill Training.

The Reading native and current West Lawn resident is a 1997 graduate of Reading High School and 2001 graduate Alvernia University.  Sanchez played baseball for Reading High School and Alvernia.  He graduated from Alvernia with a BA in Communications with an emphasis in Computer Science.

In 2003, Sanchez began a career in banking working for First Union as a roving teller.  Within two years, he became a Financial Center Manager for Wachovia Bank.  In 2012, he gained his life insurance, series 6 and series 63 investment licenses that led him to become a branch manager for Walls Fargo.  In 2016, he transitioned to BB&T Bank as a market leader.
