Over 35 Chefs to Take on the Quest for The Golden Spatula at Celebrity Chef Event

Reading, PA-Over 35 chefs will gather at the DoubleTree by Hilton, Reading to whip up their favorite culinary creation in order to benefit The Children’s Home of Reading for the 5th Annual So You Think You Can Cook Celebrity Chef Event on January 21st, 2019 at 6pm.

The competition is stiff among the chefs competing for the coveted Golden Spatula Award, dessert lovers will be casting their votes for the coveted Golden Whisk, plus there will be the unveiling of the prestigious Golden Ladle!  Last year, chefs and attendees petitioned for a category of their own and the committee gladly obliged.  Who doesn’t like a bowl of hot soup to warm their tummy on a cold winter’s night!

Some of the dishes from last year’s event included: Turducken from local favorite and returning chef Eric Esterbrook, defending Golden Spatula winner Carl Seidl’s “Smoked Heaven” and newcomer Devin Newsham’s “House Smoked Ham with Homemade Bourbon Molasses Glaze” and Linda Bloom and Vinti Shah’s “Scrumptious Banana Bread”. The chefs, known more for their keen business decisions than their cooking skills, include several doctors from Tower Health, business owners, and community supporters.  The chefs will be dishing out bite sized tastings of their masterpieces to more than 450 attendees, hoping for a vote as the top celebrity chef for 2019.

Although a winner of The Golden Spatula Award and top chef, will be named that evening, the real winners are the children and families served by The Children’s Home of Reading programming who benefit from the money raised, said Jill Troutman, vice president of advancement and marketing for The Children’s Home of Reading.  “It’s a great time to grab a few friends, escape the cabin fever and while enjoying some great dishes and having fun,” said Troutman.

Tickets are $40 each and include sampling over 35 dishes, 2 drinks and 3 votes for your favorite chef!  Tickets are available at the DoubleTree at the check in desk or online at The Children’s Home of Reading website www.choreading.org.
