DeVito, Green Named Alvernia Athletes of The Week

Reading, Pa. (Jan. 14, 2019) – Women’s Basketball sophomore Gabriella DeVito and Men’s Basketball freshman Malik Green were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performance during the week of January 7-13.

Gabriella DeVito led Alvernia in scoring in an 0-2 week for the Golden Wolves. At Lycoming on Wednesday, DeVito scored 15 points, had two steals, and four rebounds for the Golden Wolves. She hit three shots from beyond the arc, and was 2-2 from the foul line. Against Lebanon Valley on Saturday, DeVito scored 18 points, had two steals, one block, and one assist. She was 4-13 on three point shots, and was 7-19 overall. This is the third time this season DeVito has been named Alvernia Athlete of the Week.

For the second consecutive week, Malik Green has been named Alvernia Athlete of the Week. Green led Alvernia to a crucial 2-0 week in MAC Commonwealth play. On Wednesday at Lycoming, Green had 15 points, seven rebounds, one steal, and one block. Green hit a jumper that tied the game up at 68-68 after the Golden Wolves had been trailing by ten late in the second half. On Saturday against Lebanon Valley, Green put on a clinic in the second half. The freshman scored 26 of his career high 29 points in the final 20 minutes of action, and helped lead Alvernia to an 83-78 comeback win over the Dutchmen. Green was 6-12 from beyond the arc and was 8-19 overall. He also had six boards, two assists, and one steal in 35 minutes of action.
