Penn State Berks Professor Nasereddin Named IST Faculty Member of the Year

Dr. Mahdi Nasereddin, Associate Professor of Information Sciences and Technology at Penn State Berks, was recently named the College of Information Sciences and Technology (IST) Statewide Faculty Member of the Year.

The University-wide award recognizes outstanding faculty members from across the Commonwealth who exemplify the mission of the college for improving the lives of people in Pennsylvania, the nation, and the world through integrated, high-quality programs in teaching, research, and outreach. Awardees excel in their efforts to accomplish the school’s mission and have an outstanding record of fostering leaders for a digital, global economy.

Nasereddin joined the faculty of Penn State Berks in 2001 and has distinguished himself in all aspects of his faculty position. He has taught a wide range of courses in both IST and Security and Risk Analysis (SRA) at the college. He also teaches graduate-level courses through Penn State World Campus.

His research interests include using Artificial Intelligence for Prediction and classification. He serves as adviser to both IST and SRA students and is currently a thesis adviser for a Schreyer Honors student. According to one nomination, “He holds multiple certifications in information security, including CISSP and Security +. This is an example of how he has ‘gone the extra mile’ to bring real-world qualifications and training into the classroom to the benefit of his students.” In addition, he has served as a member of the College of IST’s Undergraduate Advisory Board and Chair of the Penn State Berks Faculty Senate.

Nasereddin was also a 2011/12 Fulbright Scholar and spent a year abroad in Oman conducting research and teaching.
