Gilbert, Sides Earn MAC Player of The Week Honors

Annville, Pa. (Mar. 25, 2019) – Senior Emily Gilbert and Senior Nathan Sides were named MAC Players of the Week for their performance during the week of March 18-24, as announced on Monday by the MAC Office.

Gilbert was named the MAC Women’s Golfer of the Week, and Sides was named the MAC Commonwealth Baseball Player of the Week.
Gilbert earns the honor for the third time season, and the first time this spring. The senior shot an 80 to win low-medalist honors and lead Alvernia to the team title at the Dickinson Invitational, hosted by the United States Army War College – Carlisle Barracks Golf Course. Gilbert posted eight pars and two birdies on her round, with a 40 on both the front and back nine.

Sides earns his second conference weekly award of the season. Sides led Alvernia to a 3-1 week. The senior finished his week with 11 hits, nine runs scored, six RBIs, a double, three walks, and three stolen bases. Sides hit .647 (11-for-17) and slugged .706 on the week. He went 2-for-3 in a set-back against Brockport with a double, a walk, and a run scored. He then went 9-for-14 at the plate in a series sweep of Lebanon Valley. He went 4-for-5 in the opener with four runs scored and three RBIs as the Golden Wolves overcame an 8-0 deficit to win 17-12. In the final game of the series, Sides went 5-for-6 with three runs scored, three RBIs and three stolen bases as the Golden Wolves overcame a 4-0 deficit to get the 12-8 win.

Gilbert and Sides were also named Alvernia University Athletes of the week for the same time period.
