Gilbert, Sides Named Alvernia Athletes of the Week

Reading, Pa. (Apr. 8, 2019) – Women’s Golf senior Emily Gilbert and Baseball senior Nathan Sides were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performance during the week of April 1 – April 7.

Gilbert earned two low-medalist honors on the week, tying, and then breaking, her own school record in the process. At Alvernia’s home invitational on Wednesday, Gilbert tied her own single round record with a score of 76 to earn low medalist at her final competition at Alvernia’s LedgeRock Golf Club. She then shot a record-breaking round with a 1-under par 72 performance at day two of York College’s Spartan Invitational. She birdied five or her first seven holes to stand 5-under through seven and settled for the 1-under par finish. Gilbert shot an 81 on in her opening round on Saturday and finished with a two-day total of 153 to earn low-medalist honors and finish four strokes ahead of the second place finisher.

Sides batted .565 in a 3-2 week for Alvernia, including a 2-1 week in MAC Commonwealth play. Sides went 13-for-23 at the plate with two doubles and two triples, collecting nine RBIs. He went 4-for-4 on Monday against Keystone with a double and a triple. He then drove in four runs on a 4-for-6 day against Susquehanna on Wednesday. In a doubleheader split against Messiah, Sides went 4-for-8 with three RBIs, and then drove in two in a 8-7 win over the Falcons on April 7.
