Penn State Berks Community Connections opens door to different cultures

Apr 11, 2019

WYOMISSING, PA––A new monthly program at Penn State Berks titled “Berks Community Connections” is opening the door to various cultures around the world. For the April program, Dr. Pauline Milwood, Assistant Professor of Hospitality Management, will give a presentation on Jamaica with assistance from Sharon Pitterson-Ogaldez, coordinator of Diversity and International Programs at Penn State Berks.

The event will be held at 5 p.m. on Friday, April 12, in the Perkins Student Center Multipurpose Room. This event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served.

Milwood and Pitterson-Ogaldez are both natives of Jamaica. Together they will discuss the history of the island including its independence in 1962, as well as the culture, music, sports, food and what makes Jamaica such a special place to live and visit. In addition, there will be Jamaican food for attendees to sample.

Berks Community Connections is a cultural series of events co-sponsored by the Berks Diversity Committee and Campus Activities Board. Funding is provided mainly by the Student Activity Fund and the Campus Activities Board.
