Penn State Master Gardeners of Berks County will hold a workshop on how to create a Pollinator-Friendly Garden on Tuesday evening, April 23, 7:00 p.m. at the Berks County Agricultural Center, County Welfare Road, Bern Township, near the fairgrounds.
This class will demonstrate how important pollinator gardens are in sustaining our environment and how easy it is for even an amateur gardener to create one in any property, large or small. Many homeowners will discover that they already have many elements of a pollinator garden, and that the addition of well-chosen plants or other elements over time will augment what they already have.
There is no charge for this program, but registration is required, at https://extension.psu.edu/pollinator-workshops
Master Gardeners will also walk participants through the process of certifying their gardens through Penn State’s Pollinator-Friendly Garden project. This process provides decorative signage, identifying their properties as Pollinator-Friendly.
“Many gardeners and nature lovers are aware of the threat to honeybees and Monarch butterflies,” according to Sue Seisler, head of the Master Gardener Pollinator Project in Berks County, “but scores of lesser-known, equally important pollinating insects such as our native bee populations are also at risk. Every home gardener can play an important role in saving our pollinators.”
