District Attorney Announces Contribution to BCPS for Treatment Court Employment Specialist

District Attorney John Adams has announced that he has provided Berks Connections/Pretrial Services with $25,000.00 in drug forfeiture monies to fund the position of a Treatment Court Employment Specialist.  The person in this position will provide referred participants in Berks County Drug Treatment Court with work force development services while they are actively participating in one of the treatment courts.

The Treatment Court Employment Specialist will provide programming including personal finance curriculum, credit checks and financial coaching and budgeting to those individuals, many of whom have financial obligations beyond the norm which may include court costs, fines and supervision fees.  The Treatment Court Employment Specialist will also provide work force development for participants to secure employment but also to assist them in keeping their job and to this end, this Employment Specialist will conduct ongoing case management with participants that will include strategies for employment retention.

Individuals who are participating in the Drug Treatment Court Program will be able to utilize the services of the Treatment Court Employment Specialist which will enhance their capabilities to continue in recovery and become a contributing member of our community.

This contribution is another example of taking drug dealers assets and turning those monies over to a resource that will help individuals who have become harmed by controlled substances and who are actively engaged in rehabilitation and are making an effort to become a working member of our community.
