Reading, Pa. (Apr. 22, 2019) – Women’s Track and Field graduate student Kristen Sipling and Baseball senior Nathan Sides were named Alvernia Athletes of the Week for their performance during the week of April 15 – April 21.
Sipling earns the honor for the second time this year, and first time for the outdoor season. Sides earns the honor for the third straight week and sixth time this spring season.
Sipling finished third in the shot put on Wednesday at York College’s Twilight Meet. Sipling’s mark of 11.92 meters puts her in the top five in the Middle Atlantic Conference for the outdoor season.
Sides continued his career season this past week with an 8-for-15 (.533) performance at teh plate. He scored five runs, had three extra base hits, six RBIs, and extended his current hitting streak to 18 games. On Thursday against Stevenson, Sides became Alvernia’s all-time hits leader with his 260th career hit coming on an RBI double down the right field line. Sides also went 3-for-5 at Moravian on Wednesday, and had five total hits in the series against Stevenson. Sides currently leads all of Division III with 71 hits on the season.
