On Saturday June 15, 2019, the Safe Berks Walk For NO MORE will kick off Art on the Avenue in West Reading. Art on the Avenue, an annual community celebration of art, music, food and fun, attracts approximately 15,000 people each year.

Walk For NO MORE participants will gather from 9:30-10:30 a.m. for registration, free breakfast, music, and fun activities at VF Outlet, across from McDonald’s, West Reading. At 10:30 a.m., together we will walk down Penn Avenue to the 400 block.

Radio personality Andi Kurzweg from Y102’s Morning Show will be on hand to do a live broadcast. This walk may only cover four blocks, but it makes an enormous statement. We are saying together, as a community: NO MORE domestic violence! NO MORE sexual assault!

After the Walk For NO MORE, Safe Berks will offer information, children’s crafts, entertainment, and other activities from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. in the 400 block of Penn Avenue, as part of Art on the Avenue. Safe Berks staff and volunteers will be present all day, sharing information about the free services we offer survivors of domestic violence and sexual assault. In addition to raising funds to support Safe Berks, we will also raise awareness about these important issues.

“Last year, more than 200 people participated in the Safe Berks Walk For NO MORE, and it was an amazing day,” said Mary Kay Bernosky, Esq., Safe Berks CEO. “We are hoping even more people join us this year. In addition to helping a great cause, it is also a really fun day for families and people of all ages. After the Walk, there are activities, food, shopping, and music all day along Penn Avenue.”

NO MORE is a groundbreaking symbol designed to increase awareness of domestic violence and sexual assault and to create change. Domestic violence and sexual assault are community issues. It takes the entire community to end these crimes. The Safe Berks Walk For NO MORE provides the opportunity for the entire community to come together and publicly take a stand against domestic violence and sexual assault.
