BIRDSBORO, PA – The Animal Rescue League of Berks County will host a $10 microchip clinic for residents and their pets who live in the City of Reading and the following municipalities: Amity, Bern, Birdsboro, Cumru, New Morgan, Spring, Tilden, Upper Bern, West Reading and Wyomissing on Friday, May 3 from 5-7 PM. Residents of these municipalities, which hold an animal control contract with the ARL, will receive a reduced rate of $10 per pet for the microchipping of their animal, which offers a $15 savings over the regular walk-in rate at the ARL. Additionally, residents will be able to pick up a coupon for 20% off veterinary services performed at the ARL, which include spay and neuter surgeries, dental cleanings and some small mass removals. Proof of residency may be required at the clinic.

“Microchipping your pet is one of the best ways to reunite you with your lost pet should he or she ever accidentally escape your home,” says Tom Hubric, executive director. “We think that this is such an inexpensive and easy way to guarantee you are able to find your pet if he or she routinely spends time outside or accidentally escapes your home and is picked up and taken to an animal shelter.” Animal shelters, veterinarians and some local police departments carry microchip readers that can scan the back of an animal’s neck for the rice-sized chip, which carries the animal’s owner’s name and contact information. The microchip is inserted quickly and easily by a trained veterinary technician during the clinic. All dogs should be leashed and all cats should be in a carrier who attend the clinic. Dogs who are uncomfortable with veterinary procedures should be muzzled at the owner’s discretion.

To register for the clinic, residents can visit the ARL website at The $10 microchipping fee per pet will be collected during the clinic and is payable by cash or check. The clinic will be held on the lower level of the shelter, which is located along Route 724 in Cumru Township at 58 Kennel Rd., Birdsboro, PA 19508.
