Chung Earns Golfer of the Year, Alvernia Finishes Fourth

Alvernia Earns Back-To-Back POTY Honors

White Haven, Pa. (Apr. 28, 2019)Kyung Chung posted Alvernia University’s lowest 2-day total at 1-over 145 and won MAC Commonwealth Golfer of the Year leading the Golden Wolves to a 636 team total and fourth place at the MAC Commonwealth Men’s Golf Championships Sunday afternoon at Mt. Laurel Golf Club.

Chung is the second straight Player of the Year for Alvernia following 2018 senior Keith Noonan who won the award in his final year at Hershey last spring.

Chung carded five birdies and five bogies in his even par round of 72 on Sunday after opening with 73 on Saturday.

Freshman Luke Fagley followed up his 77 on Saturday with a 79 Sunday and was named Second Team All-MAC Commonwealth.

Jake Duffy improved six spots from round one to round two posting 76 on Sunday after 83 Saturday.

Joe Polidoro rounded out the counting scores on Sunday with an 83–a 10-shot improvement over Saturday’s 93.

Chung opened his round Sunday with a par at 10 and birdie at 11, but followed with his first bogey of the day at the par 3 12th.  He birdied the par 4 16th and bogied 17 to turn in even par 36. After a par at 1 played the next five holes in 1-under with three birdies and two bogies.  He 3-putted the par 3 8th for bogey and had an easy 2-putt for par at the par 5 9th.

Fagley struggled out of the gate going 9-over on the first eight holes with seven bogies and a double.  He made his first par of the day on 18 and warmed up on the front nine with birdies on three of the first five holes on the front nine with a bogey at the 4th.
He made fairly straightforward pars at 6 and 7 then had a pair of saves on the final two holes converting from eight feet for par on 8 and 10 feet on 9 to post 2-under on the front and earn All-Conference by a single shot.

Duffy had a consistent day posting 14 pars and 4 bogies.  Three of his four bogies came on the par 5s and he played the 3s and 4s in 1-over.

Stevenson University won the team title at 621 a stroke ahead of Lebanon Valley College.
