McMurtry named PA Institute of Certified Public Accountants Reading Chapter President

Herbein + Company, Inc. is proud to announce that Manager Roxanne N. McMurtry, CPA has been named the Pennsylvania Institute of Certified Public Accountants Reading Chapter President. As President, she will serve as the leader of the Reading chapter and oversee all chapter activities and governance, and provide direction to help achieve chapter specific goals. Roxanne is in the accounting and auditing department at Herbein. She joined the firm in 2005, and is a key team leader on Herbein’s specialized government team.

Roxanne focuses on clients who are subject to standards from the Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB), which allows her to better assist with implementation of new standards and provide consultation on efficiencies and best practices. Roxanne is responsible for all aspects of the engagement including staff scheduling and leadership, planning, preparation and review of audit procedures, and financial statements.

Roxanne also serves on the PICPA Council, a statewide council. A large part of her activities are devoted to the PICPA including serving as Co-Chair of the Community Engagement Committee (focused on getting CPAs involved within their local communities to give back), and a member of the Emerging CPAs committee (works towards engaging younger CPAs for the future of the profession). She also coordinates Herbein’s involvement with PICPA activities including networking events, Hats and SOX Drives (collecting and distributing warm hats and socks to men and women in need), and Stuff the Bus campaigns. She regularly presents to local area high schools on the importance of financial literacy, and through Junior Achievement participated in a seven week program focused on preparing students for employment after graduation.

In 2013, Roxanne was the recipient of the PICPA Young Leader Award. This award recognizes members under the age of 40 who demonstrate their commitment to the accounting profession through active PICPA or community volunteer efforts. Roxanne graduated from Shippensburg University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) in Accounting. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her family, including her husband, son, daughter, and two cats.
