BAILE = Barrio Alegria Incursion of Learning and Education

Two things happened early in 2018. First, we created our BAILE program that took 2 groups of 10 community members to Philadephia to learn from community organizations doing similar work as Barrio.
Secondly, Barrio was accepted to be part of the second Arts Marketing Cohort organized by Americans for the Arts!

Through this cohort we have met amazing organizations in the Pittsburgh area and this month, we will be taking a new group of community members to visit and learn from them!

BAILE participants are always inspired!

In 2018, we visited 12 organizations and sat with their Executive and creative Directors to learn about their history, their challenges, best practices and plans for the future. Some of the organizations included: Village of the Arts and Humanities, Taller Portoriqueno, Asian Arts Initiative, Tiny WPA, People’s Emergency Center, Traction Company, Spiral Q, among others!

We learned that we are not much different from places like Philly. We learned that one of the secrets for success is to form coalitions, so that resources are available for more people, longer.

We look forward to sharing our learning with fellow artists and community members when we come back!

BAILE is a Barrio Leadership program.
Let us know if you would like to get involved.

I want to know more!
