Annville, Pa. (June 10, 2019) – Men’s Basketball junior Nick Youngkin and Women’s Indoor Track and Field sophomore Susanna Pirollo earned Academic All-MAC honors, as announced by the Middle Atlantic Conference (MAC) on Tuesday.
The Academic All-MAC Teams are based upon athletic performance and semester grade-point averages (GPA) for the semester of the championship season. The minimum GPA required is a 3.20, and the student-athlete must remain an eligible member of the team through the conclusion of the season. The MAC sports information directors nominate and vote for the Academic All-MAC Teams, giving 50% weight on both academic success and athletic success.
“These recipients represent the true meaning of a student-athlete,” said Ken Andrews, MAC Executive Director. “This is one of the top conference awards we give out each season. It honors our student-athletes who excel both in the classroom and on the playing field.”
Youngkin, a communication major, averaged 13.8 points per game and 6.5 rebounds per game. He shot .762 from the free throw line and finished the season with 35 assists and 22 steals. He led the MAC Commonwealth in time played with 36.3 minutes played per game.
Pirollo, an athletic training major, earned first team All-MAC honors with a first place finish in the pentathlon at the 2019 Indoor MAC Championships. Pirollo finished the pentathlon with 2,933 points, and also made the podium with a seventh place finish in the long jump with a mark of 5.06m.
Both Youngkin and Pirollo are the first to earn Academic All-MAC honors for their respective sports since the MAC began the award in the 2013-14 academic year.
