From Kutztown University

Jun 14, 2019

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. — All-American discus thrower Luke Hoffman has been named 2019 Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year, the league office announced this week. Hoffman is also one of five Kutztown University men’s track & field student-athletes earning all-conference honors for the outdoor season by virtue of a top three event finish at last month’s PSAC Championships.

Hoffman is the first Golden Bear male to win Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. The sophomore from York, Pennsylvania was the top vote getter among the league’s head coaches and now has two major conference awards in as many seasons following Freshman of the Year honors in 2018. He broke school, conference and conference championship meet records en route to his first PSAC championship with a throw of 186-feet, 4-inches (56.80m) on May 10 at Mansfield, and went on to claim a third-place finish and his second consecutive All-America honor later in the month at the NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships in Kingsville, Texas.

The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) announced Hoffman as its 2019 Atlantic Region Outdoor Field Athlete of the Year. As a freshman, Hoffman placed third at the PSAC Outdoor Championships and 10th at nationals in the discus.

Hoffman is one of five All-PSAC honorees from KU along with Xavier Feliciano, Xavier Gutierrez, Brandon Leacraft and Tommy Oliver. Leacraft won his first PSAC title in the javelin, while Feliciano finished third in the pole vault, Gutierrez third in the 3000-meter steeplechase and Oliver third in the decathlon.
